Mortal Shell

The much-anticipated release of Mortal Shell is finally upon us. Today, August 18, is the day the game is available on PS4, Xbox One, and the Epic Games Store.

In celebration of this milestone, developer Cold Symmetry and publisher Playstack have released the “Birth of Solomon” cinematic trailer, which you can check out below. This trailer was directed by film director Alessandro Pacciani, who also did work on trailers for Dark Souls II and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (or PUBG).

In case you aren’t familiar, Solomon is one of the characters in Mortal Shell. Well, he’s less of a character and more of a corpse, I suppose. See, one of the key mechanics in Mortal Shell is that players inhabit “Shells,” which are basically human corpses that you reanimate and walk around inside of like mech suits made of human.

As you bond with and upgrade your Shell, you will start to learn things about what each person had going on while still alive. In that sense, I guess you could say that Solomon is a character in the game, as you’ll hear some narration from him and learn a bit about his life.

For anyone jumping into Mortal Shell, I have one piece of advice: Take it slow. This is a game that is best enjoyed while meandering rather than bolting for the ending right away. Spend time getting to know the game world and unlocking its secrets. It’s definitely worth your time.
