The Witcher Is Getting a Mobile Game

The Witcher: Monster Slayer

The Half-Glass Gaming crew has always been big on the Witcher series, even back when we were still a podcast. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a masterpiece of gaming, and we’re always interested to see more from this franchise.

The newest addition to the Witcher lineup is The Witcher: Monster Slayer, a mobile AR game that puts you in the shoes of a Witcher, hunting foul beasts out in the wild.

If the trailer is anything to go by, this does seem a little bit like Pokémon Go, only with the Witcher’s mythological creatures rather than pokémon. The official website piants a very similar picture, saying:

Foul creatures roam the vast lands of the Continent — and it falls to those known as witchers to hunt them down. Set long before the time of Geralt of Rivia, The Witcher: Monster Slayer is an augmented-reality exploration game that challenges you to become an elite monster hunter. See the world around you transformed into the dark fantasy realm of The Witcher, and explore once-familiar locations now infested with dangerous beasts as you start on the path as a professional monster slayer.

The Witcher: Monster Slayer

We’re not sure how to feel about this. While we’re happy that the Witcher is getting so much attention these days, we’d much rather have a full-on console title — a beefy, open-world Witcher 4 — rather than a mobile AR game. Yet Pokémon Go was admittedly quite a bit of fun back when it first came out, so maybe The Witcher: Monster Slayer will be similarly enjoyable. Will it explode in popularity the way Pokémon Go did? Only time will tell.

In the meantime, you can check out the announcement trailer for The Witcher: Monster Hunter below.
