If you’re trying to figure out how to get the Secret Tape in the Mall stage in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, I’ve got your back. I spent stupid amounts of time playing THPS1 and THPS2 (and even THPS3) back when they were new, and as I play, memories are flooding back to me — memories of secret tape locations. So I figured the least I could do was put together this quick little guide to help out Tony Hawk newcomers. Welcome to your new addiction.
Anyway, let’s get started.
First off, you might want to grind some stats before attempting this one, as a maxed out Rail Balance skill will really come in handy here.
When you’re ready to start, head down the first series of ramps until you smash through the glass doors and you’re inside the mall. Instead of heading upwards, stick to the right side of the hall. You’ll encounter several planters, then a long wooden box, and grinding these will get you some much needed juice for your Special Bar.
Pretty soon, you’re going to encounter a ramp going up and a ramp going down. Don’t take either of these. Instead, stick to the right, and you’ll ride a sort of balcony alongside the downward ramp. Grind that rial, and at the very end of it, leap toward the left to try to get on top of the suspended rails. If you can get onto the leftmost one, you should be golden.
You might have to time a jump between the two suspended rails, but this tape is actually a lot more forgiving than I remember it being. In fact, I actually biffed on the rail, and the game still awarded me the tape.
If you can pull off a couple somewhat long grinds, this tape shouldn’t give you a ton of trouble. It is a little tricky to get the transition, but with a little bit of practice you should be able to do it.
