Craftopia is still pretty rough around the edges, but it’s hard not to be excited about the game’s future. This open-world sandbox is absolutely bursting with potential. Since it entered early access on September 4th, 2020, the development team has been updating it vigilantly. Every time I load it up, it feels like it’s a little better than it was the last time around.
Since Craftopia is heavily inspired by Breath of the Wild, it’s hard not to imagine what the game would be like on the go. This is an addictive, relaxing title that would be perfect to play in handheld mode. Will Craftopia be released on Nintendo Switch, or is that just a pipe dream?
The Craftopia devs have commented on a potential Switch release, but so far, they haven’t said much. They made the following comment on their Steam Discussion forums on September 1, 2020:
We are still considering releasing Craftopia in consoles. We will announce it when we make a decision.
Since Craftopia has done very well on Steam, and since the devs are open to bringing the game to consoles, it seems very likely that a Nintendo Switch release is somewhere on the horizon. Unfortunately, it’s hard to imagine that this would happen anytime soon.
The Craftopia roadmap is currently packed with features that need to be added to the game, like fish farming, Creative Mode, new races, and multiplayer content like raid bosses. It’s improbable that the devs would port the game without making those big updates first.
Craftopia on Switch would be wonderfully cozy, but in the meantime, there’s still plenty to do in the Steam version of the game. Whether you’re playing with the character creator, building an automated farm, or gliding across the map with a hang-glider, Craftopia is relaxing even when you can’t play it in bed.
