Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

Ah, pre-order bonuses. Sometimes a game publisher really knocks it out of the park with their pre-order bonuses, delivering goods that you just can’t go without (the Cyberpunk 2077 steelbooks instantly come to mind). Other times, pre-order bonuses feel like pointlessly tacked-on digital disappointments.

When it comes to Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Nintendo’s really got a lukewarm batch of soup to serve us. If you pre-order the game digitally, you will receive an in-game Lucky Ladle. As far as pre-order bonuses go, this one really seems to be scraping the bottom of the soup pot.

For some reason, this item is not available for the physical version of the game, but Nintendo wants us to know that it may become available as paid DLC later on. How much do you think they’re going to charge for this ladle? One can only guess.

If you have a The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild save file on your Nintendo Switch, you can also get a wooden training sword. Since Age of Calamity is a prequel to Breath of the Wild, it does make sense that Nintendo would reward you for buying (and playing) both games.

This one also might be paid DLC at some point. Perhaps this will come in a bundle with the Lucky Ladle? Maybe they’ll toss in a packet of instant ramen noodles and a cucco egg so you can really indulge?

While we’re actually pretty excited for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, these bonus items don’t do a whole lot for us. The Champions Unite! trailer that was released yesterday, however, actually does have us hyped.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is due to land on November 20. You can check out the Champions Unite! trailer below.
