The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

CD Projekt Red has a reputation — both in the video game industry and with gamers alike — for being a studio refuses to rest on their laurels. With their post-launch support for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, they not only delivered DLC that rivaled most other full games, they also gave players a wellspring of free goodies for weeks after launch (and that’s to say nothing of the physical goods that came with the game).

But with the impending November 19 release of Cyberpunk 2077 coming in fast, one would assume that CD Projekt Red must surely have their hands full putting the finishing touches on what appears to be a massive new IP.

But, as it turns out, they’re never too busy to show our beloved Geralt and Ciri some attention.

CD Projekt Red, seemingly out of the blue, just announced that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is going to receive the next-gen treatment on the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X, as well as PC.

According to the official Witcher website:

Developed to take advantage of the most powerful gaming hardware, the next-gen edition of the game will feature a range of visual and technical improvements — including ray tracing and faster loading times — across the base game, both expansions, and all extra content.

The kicker? If you own a current-gen copy (much like with Cyberpunk 2077), you will get the next gen upgrade for free.

That’s right, folks, you read that correctly. If you currently own a copy of The Witcher 3, which released back on May 18, 2015, you will get a free next-gen upgrade. For free.

Even if you don’t currently own a copy, worry not. You can either pick one up before the release of the next console generation (the Complete Edition is frequently on sale on digital storefronts for around $15 – $20), or you can just wait to purchase the next-gen version and enjoy this incredible game.

There is, however, no official price for the next-gen version yet, so you might want to get the current-gen version on the cheap and wait for the upgrade. Either way, this is great news for Geralt, and even better news for the people who love him. (I just hope that I can get over the Groundhog Day Effect enough to enjoy a replay on a new console.)

All all of this is on top of the Pokémon  Go-style mobile game that was recently announced. CD Projekt Red just won’t stop delivering the goods!
