Toward the beginning of Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, you will find a lootable chest called the Special Delivery Chest in the village of Gorhart. It’s filled to the brim with treasures — more than you can carry, in fact.
It seems like an odd choice for something so early in the game, and it can seem a bit overwhelming. So what’s up with this chest?
To answer that, first you must be aware that Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is an HD remaster of the 2012 game Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. In the original, the chest was there as a way for players to collect DLC items. Since Re-Reckoning contains all the DLC from the original game, every bonus DLC item is in the Special Deliveries Chest as soon as you start the game.
Now, it sounds like (and I haven’t been able to confirm this) the loot in the chest will scale up to the level you are at when you open the chest, though it will cap out at level 12.
When you decided to open the chest, you should be a little bit picky about what you choose to loot. If you hit the “Take All” option, you’ll be flooded with a bunch of rare items, most of which can’t be used simiultaneously (there are several gear sets, for example). So the best approach is to dig through the chest for exactly what you’re looking for. Playing as a stealthier character? Maybe go for the daggers and the medium armor set (the Running Man set). If you’re more interested in the Might skill tree, perhaps the heavy armor (Guardian set) would be a better pick.
It can be somewhat inconvenient for players who stumble upon this without realizing what it is, because you can be saddled with a ton of unnecessary inventory by looting it too early.
I should point out, of course,that you will have the option to acquire your own house later in the game, and that will give you 300 slots of storage space, so you can unload any of your unwanted-but-potentially-worth-saving-for-later items there.
So that’s the secret of the Special Deliveries Chest in Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning.
Beware: Most likely the items in the chest still scale to your character’s level when the chest is opened. If you open it much later in the game they’ll be higher level items.
My understanding was that the content originally scaled to the level you were at when you installed the DLC, which would mean the Re-Reckoning content is scaled to starter characters. I haven’t confirmed this yet, though, so take it with a grain of salt.
