Mafia: Definitive Edition

While driving around in Mafia: Definitive Edition recently, partaking in what I might comfortably be able to categorize as the best tailing mission I’ve played in a recent game, I was treated to an in-game radio broadcast of a fictional baseball game.

The sound designers for Mafia really knocked this one out the park. I was hard-pressed to believe this wasn’t just an actual baseball broadcast from back in the 1930s. The terms and enthusiasm and general old-timey feel are spot-on and infinitely charming.

During this drive, I also happened to notice that the radio loses some reception in the tunnel, which only adds to the realism of the whole affair.

This whole sequence made me feel like I was taking part in a 1930s take on the opening of the 2011 Ryan Gosling movie Drive. Substitute the contemporary basketball game (which was on the radio while Gosling’s character was making his getaway) with a 1930’s baseball game, and we’re in Drive territory, baby.

You can check out the whole baseball-tinged tailing mission below. You might also marvel at my ability to not screw up this mission while also managing to drive in a believable fashion. I take these things seriously, folks.
