There is a list of things that will make me immediately interested in an upcoming video game. Here are five of the top items on that list:
- Gorgeous pixel art
- A super-catchy chiptune soundtrack
- Survival gameplay mechanics (here’s a description of how we’re defining those here at Half-Glass Gaming)
- A robust crafting system
- A development studio I’ve been impressed by in the past
The Survivalists ticks all five of those boxes, and then some. This game comes from Team 17, the studio behind The Escapists (which I absolutely adored). The Survivalists is a survival/crafting game with a beautiful pixel art style. If the trailer is any indication, the soundtrack features some lovely bleeps and bloops as well. Sign me the frick up already, this game has my number.
On top of the things I’ve already mentioned, The Survivalists also includes some nice-to-have features:
- A procedurally generated world
- Multiple biomes
- Base building
- Pirate ghosts
- Four-player co-op
- Befriendable monkeys
- Dungeon crawling
- And so much more
I’m drooling. The Survivalists looks like it was made just for me.
In fact, I sent fellow Half-Glass Gamer and survival-game enthusiast Julian a message about The Survivalists the other day, and his response was simply, “That does look like your kind of game.”
Indeed it does, Julian. Indeed it does.
The Survivalists is coming to Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on October 9, 2020. It’s also slated for release on Apple Arcade at some point in the future. If you want to know more about The Survivalists, check out the trailer below.
