Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is another game (in a very long line) that takes advantage of Nintendo’s amiibo figures. So what do they do, and how can you make the most of your expensive plastic toys?

Well, I’ve created a complete guide to using amiibo figures in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. So read on to learn everything you need to know about how they work.

What do amiibo figures do in Age of Calamity?

You can scan amiibo figures to earn additional resources within the game. The type of resource you’ll earn depends on which amiibo figure you scan.

How do you use amiibo figures in Age of Calamity?

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

Go to the title screen of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity (shown above). Here, the option to scan amiibo figures is at the bottom of the list. When you scan an amiibo figure, you will be awarded a certain amount of resources. These are usually things like crafting ingredients, but they occasionally include weapons.

There is a limit, though. You can only scan an amiibo figure one time per day. Duplicates of the same character (say, Bowser and Wedding Bowser) count as the same figure. You can scan five different amiibo per day.

Of course, there is a workaround to this limitation if you don’t mind cheating a little bit. You can change the system clock on your Switch to scan additional items. (I’ve created a more in-depth guide to doing that here.)

What are the best amiibo figures to scan in Age of Calamity?

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

Okay, so you’ll probably want to scan amiibo figures based on the things you need the most. Because I was able to cheese the system and scan more than my allotted five per day, I’ve done quite a bit of experimentation to see exactly what each amiibo figure offers.

Now, keep in mind that amiibo work pretty similar to how they did in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. There is a pool of resources you can get from each amiibo, and what you get each day is randomized within that pool. Most Legend of Zelda figures contain rare items such as weapons, and those are probably the figures you’ll want to gravitate towards.

There’s a weird caveat here, though. You can’t get weapons for a character you haven’t unlocked yet. (Here’s a complete guide to unlocking every character.) If you haven’t unlocked, say, Daruk, scanning the Daruk amiibo will never result in you earning a weapon for Daruk. Once you unlock him, however, scanning his amiibo will have a chance to earn one of his weapons.

Another thing to know is that your pool of potential weapons gets better as you progress. It seems like it’s about when Link hits level 25 that the pool of items expands, though it’s really hard to put an exact number on it. Note that this might also be tied to story progression as well. Again, it’s really hard to tell which exact thing it was that triggered the bigger prize pool.

So I’ve made a list of what each Legend of Zelda amiibo figure can potentially earn you.

Again, I want to make it clear that you’re not guaranteed to get a particular item for scanning one of the amiibo figures listed below; you have a chance to earn that item when you scan that figure. You also have a chance of getting a batch of vegetables, fish, or ores. Each amiibo has a resource pool associated with it, and your pulls will be randomized from that pool. You might not get lucky on your first try, but keep trying and you should eventually get these items.

Also, I’m only making a list of rare and unique items. I’m not going to make a complete list of the resource pool for every single amiibo figure.

Alright, so are you ready?

Link – Tree Branch, Traveler’s Claymore, Soldier’s Broadsword, Boomerang, Iron Sledgehammer, Double Axe, Soup Ladle.

This seems to work for any Link amiibo with the exception of 8-Bit Link. I’ve tried Link (Smash Bros.), Link (Majora’s Mask), Link (Ocarina of Time), Link (Link’s Awakening), Toon Link, Young Link, Wolf Link, Link and Epona, and Archer Link.

8-Bit Link – Spiked Boko Spear, Moblin Spear, Throwing Spear.

Zelda – Ancient Memory Part, Ancient Power Boost, Sacred Bow.

This seems to work for any Zelda figure, including Sheik. I’ve tried Zelda (Smash Bros.), Zelda (Breath of the Wild), Zelda (Wind Waker), and Sheik.

Daruk – Cobble Crusher.

Urbosa – Gerudo Scimitar.

Revali – Traveler’s Bow.

Mipha – Traveler’s Spear.

Bokoblin – Boko Club, Boko Bat, Spiked Boko Bat.

Guardian – Scanning the Guardian amiibo gets you Ancient parts, such as Ancient Spring, Ancient Screw, Ancient Gear, and Ancient Shaft.

Can you earn rewards for scanning non-Legend of Zelda amiibo figures?

Yes, any amiibo should work, but the non-Legend of Zelda amiibo figures don’t seem to grant the caliber of rewards that the Legend of Zelda figures do. They’ll usually give you things like fish, mushrooms, crafting ingredients, and so on.

I addition to the characters having a chance of granting ther own weapons, the 4 champion amiibo also have a chance of dropping weapons for their future counterparts so Mipha can drop weapons for Sidon once you unlock him.
