Lately, I’ve been all about games that have “monster” in the title. I can’t wait to play Monster Harvest. I just picked up the sequel to Monster Prom. Monster Train might be my game of the year. When I spotted Monster Crown, an early access monster-collecting RPG, in my Steam recommendations, I couldn’t help but be intrigued.
As you might be able to tell from the image above (and the name Monster Crown), this title is heavily inspired by old-school Pokémon games. However, there’s a dark underbelly to Monster Crown‘s bright and colorful world. Your character lives on an island that’s long been ruled by tyrants. In order to fight back, you must enter into pacts with monsters. While the monsters you collect agree to fight with you, the game doesn’t shy away from topics like monster enslavement.
Currently, there are more than 200 monsters in Monster Crown. Monsters can also be fused and bred, allowing you to create custom monster types. The developers have stated that they plan to add plenty of features before the game leaves early access, including more monsters, gene editing, and post-game content.
Monster Crown looks fantastic so far, and I’m excited to see how the game develops. If you’d like to see more of the title in its current state, you can check out the early access trailer below.
