Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is one of the best games of 2020, but that certainly doesn’t mean it’s perfect. In fact, it’s pretty buggy, especially since the Yule Festival began.

As it turns out, a lot of people are having an issue with one of the game’s Legendary Hunts, the Beast of the Hills.

The Beast of the Hills is a Legendary Bear that spends its days in the Uriconium Ruins in Sciropesciere, drinking barrels of ale. Here’s a map showing its exact location.

I’ve heard tell this is a difficult fight, but I wouldn’t know because I never actually had to do it the proper way. In my game, the game bugged out here, and it seems a lot of people are having the same problem. Thankfully, there’s an easy fix.

So, first off, make sure you save your game before you reach the bear, just in case this doesn’t work and you have to start over. Next up, navigate to the Uriconium Ruins and find the opening to the underground entrance. It’s pretty huge, so it’s hard to miss. It’s also marked with a “Secret Entrance” icon on your map.

Follow the tunnel to the end (you’ll have to turn to the right, then descend down a ramp, then follow the blood smear around the next corner). There’s a narrow opening here, which you’ll need to duck and slide through. Entering the next room should trigger the fight. However, if you encounter the glitch, the bear will spawn over the room instead of inside it.

Leave the tunnel, and go up to the hill over the room where the fight is supposed to take place. You should find the bear glitched out and drinking an invisible keg of ale. You can kill it now, and it won’t fight back. At this stage, you won’t actually get credit for defeating it, and the icon will still show on your map (though you’ll get XP for the kill).

To claim credit for the fight — and to clear the icon from your map — simply return to the room where the fight was supposed to happen. Once you enter, the completion graphic should appear, and you should acquire the Beast of the Hills’ Head (which you can bring back to the taxidermist at Ravensthorpe to commemorate your achievement).

And that’s how you get around the Beast of the Hills glitch in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

What is hard with this fight if it doesn’t glitch is the bear stops to drink which regenerates its health. You must beat on it to stop it from regenerating health. The longer it drinks, the more health it gains back. The bear goes back to fighting you, but if you allow it to complete its drinking, it could eventually go back to full health.
