Minecraft Star Wars

Perhaps it was inevitable that Minecraft and Star Wars would end up fused together into a malleable-but-very-much-licensed game world. And fused together they have become. It’s official. The two have now become one.

So I figured, what the heck else am I going to do with my Saturday evening but download this mash-up and give it a go? I love Minecraft, and I love Star Wars, so this is probably right up my alley.

But now that I’ve installed it, all I want to do is look at stuff. There’s so much to see in this familiar world, and I want to see all of it. All it took was for me to spot my first Jawa to know my dreams of building absolutely anything had been tossed into the trash compactor, like so many leftover Rebels and princesses.

I’m hooked. I’m absolutely 100% hooked. After spotting a Jawa, I noticed that there was a small flock (herd? gaggle? murder?) of Salacious Crumb things wandering around. And then I realized I was standing right on top of the Lars homestead from A New Hope. To really seal the deal, some John Williams music wafted in and swept me away.

I haven’t moved a single block of dirt, or crafted a tool, or punched a tree. I did kill a Stormtrooper, but only on accident, and it dropped some item that I haven’t figured out what to do with. And really, Stormtroopers in Minecraft are just reskinned zombies, so I didn’t kill the thing so much as lead it into the sun to spontaneously combust on its own.

I don’t know how long I will play the Star Wars add-on pack for Minecraft, but I don’t think I’m going to ever create a single thing. I just want to look at stuff, because looking at Star Wars stuff will always make me incredibly happy. And, if you ask me, that alone is worth the $8 asking price.
