Red Dead Online

We got another Red Dead Online update today. This one adds ten levels of progression to the Bounty Hunter Role, gives us a new Outlaw Pass, and completely nerfs the way gold is handed out for daily challenges.

Oh, and there’s a standalone version of the game now, so you can play Red Dead Online without having to cough up the dough for the full version of Red Dead Redemption 2.

On top of being a somewhat disappointing update all around (especially after the absolutely fantastic Naturalist update), the patch adds some new bugs to the game. The worst one, in my opinion, is that players are unable to earn XP after progressing the new Outlaw Pass to Rank 2 (XP actually stops being earned when you’re 5 XP away from hitting Rank 3).

Since there’s bound to be an influx of new players due to the discount price on the standalone version, and there’s a new Outlaw Pass out right flipping now, the XP glitch is inexcusable. The thing is, Rockstar isn’t exactly known for showing initiative when it comes to fixing things in Red Dead Online. This glitch might just be the game’s new normal.

Red Dead Online

I have to admit, I was really looking forward to this new update, and the lackluster content and pretty much game-breaking bugs are a real damper on my excitement. I hope this all gets addressed very quickly, but I’m not so sure it will.

I feel especially bad for new players who just picked up the standalone version of the game today, as this has been a painfully bad experience.

Update: The servers seemed to go down for a bit on Tuesday night, and now XP is working properly.
