Red Dead Online Outlaw Pass No. 4 – A Complete Breakdown

Red Dead Online‘s Outlaw Pass No. 4 is here, and it brings with it a lot of cosmetics, discounts, and item bundles, as well as some much-needed quality-of-life upgrades. The pass launched December 1, 2020, and it runs through March 15, 2021.

You can purchase the pass for 40 gold bars, but if you purchase by December 7 you’ll get a 10 gold bar rebate (plus a gift of RDO$400). You will earn back 30 gold bars if you play the pass through to completion.

This is a change from previous passes, as in those cases you could earn back all of the gold you paid on the pass (the Halloween Pass is an exception, of course). You can technically earn back all of the gold you paid with Outlaw Pass No. 4, but only if you purchase it by December 7.

To purchase the pass, bring up your menu (by pressing the Options button if you’re playing on PS4) and go to Benefits or Progress. Either one of these should work. You’ll see the Outlaw Pass as one of the options here. Select that to bring up the pass menu.

From here, you’ll simply have a button prompt to buy the pass. It’s the X button if you’re playing on PS4.

If you want to try to earn the gold to buy the Outlaw Pass, I wrote a 2020 guide to earning gold in Red Dead Online for Half-Glass Gaming’s sister site Lightgun Galaxy. Note that a recent update has nerfed gold payouts, so that information won’t be as accurate as it once was. Still, every method mentioned in that piece will earn you some amount of gold.

I should also point out that the 40 gold bars only buys you the Premium version of the Outlaw Pass. The basic version of the pass is free to all players and is automatically applied to anyone who logs into the game. The free rewards are pretty meager, though.

So what do I think of all this? Well, like the Prestigious Bounty Hunter License, the quality-of-life items here are the best part of the package. In fact, the Wilderness Fast Travel skill is worth 40 gold bars on its own. That’s something I’ve wanted in Red Dead Online for as long as I can remember (it does exist in Red Dead Redemption 2‘s story mode). The ammo parcel upgrades are an incredible benefit as well.

As for cosmetic items, there are a few that I think are actually pretty cool. The Irontooth mask (Rank 38) is great, and I adore the Washwood Fur Coat (Rank 67). I missed out on the Husky in Outlaw Pass No. 2, so I’m happy to see the Red Husky here at Rank 90. The ultimate reward is the Moremont outfit, at Rank 100, and that’s really cool too. In case it looks familiar, it’s the outfit Arthur Morgan wears in the beginning of Red Dead Redemption 2 (the part where the gang is hiding out in Colter).

I’m honestly not super excited about anything else here. The horse moustaches are ridiculous, though it’s nice to have some new tails and manes for horses now. I’m already making use of the Wild Tails. Plus, I’ll take any free Collector Role items I can get.

I bought the Outlaw Pass No. 4, and I plan on completing it. But I play a ton of RDO no matter what, so all of this stuff is really just icing on my daily piece of cake.
