With Cyberpunk 2077 being one of the most talked-about games in recent memory (for better or worse), there’s been a whole slew of other games experimenting with that Blade Runner-esque cyberpunk aesthetic. Cloudpunk immediately comes to mind.
But what if that aesthetic were tied to a GTA-style top-down car game? No, I don’t mean the current version of GTA; I mean the old PSOne-era Grand Theft Auto Games. You know, the ones that at a glance sort of looked like a drug-addled version of Frogger filled with mayhem and destruction?
Glitchpunk is here to fill the cyberpunk GTA gap in your heart that you didn’t even know existed. Revealed in a high-octane (yeah, I know) trailer today, Glitchpunk looks like what we might have expected Cyberpunk 2077 to look like had it released in 1998 instead of 2020. And as guy who owns a retro gaming website, I mean this as a complement rather than a diss.
We don’t know a ton about Glitchpunk yet, but it’s slated for an early access release sometime in the first half of 2021, and a demo is due out in February.
To tide you over until then, you can watch the announcement trailer below.
