If you’ve played Cyberpunk 2077, chances are you’ve come across a dubiously familiar face, whether or not you were even aware of it. For me, as a longtime stealth fan, I was immediately suspicious when I first encountered Delamain, the sentient A.I. cab dispatcher.
That smooth, pasty bald head, the garish eyeliner, those razor-sharp cheekbones — the Delamain A.I. is somehow Helmut Kruger from Hitman (2016). Or, at the very least, his program most certainly was designed to resemble the elusive runway impresario.
Don’t believe me? Think I’m talking out my patootie? Let me present my evidence, your honor.
As exhibit A, here is Cyberpunk 2077‘s Delamain A.I.:
And for my exhibit B, this is the Helmut Kruger banner from the Showstopper level in Hitman:
I mean, c’mon, the likeness is unmistakable.
But this is creating an intellectual quandary for me. If the Delamain A.I. is based on Kruger’s likeness, was it Kruger himself or was it Agent 47 in disguise as Kruger? And of it’s Agent 47 disguised as Kruger, is there a small part of Agent 47 buried deep in Delamain’s coding? Is Delamain just playing coy, waiting for the moment to strike his secret assassination target? Is it… it is me?
After successfully completing countless Hitman assassinations over the years, is it finally my time to be retired? Or is it specifically V, the player character in Cyberpunk 2077, who’s headed toward the big house in the television-static sky, with me, the player, as unwitting collateral?
I’m still connecting the dots, but the truth is out there, my friend. I just need to find it. I’m onto something here, surely. There’s no way I’m just a paranoid delusional shut-in, right?
