For a few months of 2020, the only thing I wanted to do with my life was play Animal Crossing: New Horizons. No other game could capture my attention, and nothing felt quite as important as racking up NookMiles. All I wanted to do to build the perfect island. Since then, my addition has subsided (somewhat), but it’s left a New Horizons-shaped hole in my life.

Thankfully, it looks like Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town might be able to fill that void. The game has an impressive roster of marriage candidates, along with all the classic farming features you’d expect. But it also includes some new features that feel like they came straight out of Animal Crossing.

In Olive Town, you’ll find a museum that accepts all kinds of donations, including fish and various treasures. You can also capture and donate photos of locals, which means Pioneers of Olive Town might be able to tide you over until the release of New Pokémon Snap.

On top of that, it looks like you’ll have more options than ever when it comes to decorating and designing your farm. You’ll be able to place paths, set up outdoor furniture, and turn your farm into the kind of place that you’ll want to show off. I’m not sure the customization options will be as deep as they are in New Horizons, but this looks like something I’ll be spending hours on regardless. You can even grow Animal Crossing-style peach trees!

Pioneers of Olive Town even has some classic Animal Crossing features that were missing from New Horizons. Olive Town has its own beauty salon, where you can change your hairstyle, facial features, and more for a small fee. (Sadly, it doesn’t look like a poodle will be doing the styling.)

Since you can now do some light farming in Animal Crossing, it makes sense that we’re seeing Animal Crossing-like features in farming titles. Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town is far from being an Animal Crossing clone, but the thought of filling up a brand-new museum has me pretty excited.

You’ll be able to donate fish, decorate your farm, get your hair done, and enjoy plenty of other features when Pioneers of Olive Town is released for Switch on March 23, 2021. You can get a close look at these new features in the trailer below.
