Colt Canyon

Like so many of the other roguelikes out there, Colt Canyon lets you play a seeded run. A seeded run, in case you’re not familiar, is when you play a game that uses a specific “seed” (or set of parameters) instead of a randomized one.

You can play seeded runs in the console version of the game (PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch), but this isn’t immediately apparent. In fact, I didn’t even know how to do it until I spoke with the game’s creator, Jonathan Mannshoven of Retrific Game Studio.

So here’s how you play a seeded run in the console version of Colt Canyon.

You can find your current seed by going to the pause menu. It is listed with any modifiers you have enabled for that run.

If you’re interested in playing that seed again, be sure to write down that code.

Now, the option to start a seeded run is in the character selection menu. There’s a tiny little gears icon in the upper left-hand corner of your screen. Select that and you can choose a game seed, as well as tampering with a robust set of options that will make your run easier or more challenging (note that many of these options will disable Trophies/Achievements).

One thing to be aware of is that seeds might be different based on which console you’re playing on. And this comes straight from the game’s creator. In my recent interview with Retrific Game Studio, Mannshoven told me, “However, a seed that works on PC might not result in the same run on a different platform.”

Seeded runs can be useful if you just want to practice a specific run until you get good at it, or if you’re trying to find a very specific thing.

And there you go. That’s how you play seeded runs in Colt Canyon for consoles!
