Mortal Shell: Enhanced Edition

If you’re looking for a Soulslike game that sticks as close to the Dark Souls formula as possible while still feeling new and interesting, Mortal Shell might very well be your best option. I played it last year and here’s what I said about it:

Mortal Shell, a game designed by a tiny team of fifteen people, has managed to get nearly every aspect of the Dark Souls formula right without repeating its biggest missteps.

High praise, right?

I also added Mortal Shell to my list of Soulslikes that you should play once you’ve finished everything FromSoftware has put out. Needless to say, Mortal Shell is absolutely great.

Today, it was announced that Mortal Shell: Enhanced Edition is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series S/X on March 4, 2021. This upscaled version of the game features better textures, as well as 4K resolution with a 60 FPS framerate.

Oh, and if you already own the game on PS4 or Xbox One, you’ll get upgraded to the PS5 or Xbox Series S/X version (respectively) for free.

If you can get your hands on a PS5, you should definitely be picking up Demon’s Souls right away. But if you’ve finished Demon’s Souls and you’re still thirsting for more of that grimdark fantasy goodness, then Mortal Shell should be next on your list.
