Knockout City was revealed earlier this month, but during today’s Sony State of Play, we got some more details about the game in a sizeable gameplay showcase.
I have to say, the game footage immediately brought Splatoon and Fortnite to mind, with maybe just a tinge of Rocket League. Knockout City is basically a battle-royale-style open-world PvP dodgeball tourney.
Unlike Splatoon, Knockout City will be appearing on multiple consoles and will include cross-play.
After the recent launch of Destruction AllStars, as well as the recent announcement of Splatoon 3, it’s interesting to see yet another zany, sort-of-cartoony action combat game show up. And although Destruction AllStars features vehicular combat with some on-foot action, and Knockout City strictly sticks to hoofin’ it, there are some parallels — at least visually. But the more the merrier, I suppose.
Now, if Sony could get ample PS5s out in the wild for us to play the upscaled version of this game on, that would really be a knockout.
Knockout City is due out for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and Nintendo Switch on May 21, 2021. You can watch the Knockout City State of Play gameplay showcase below.
