Bravely Default II‘s Bard job is similar to the Performer job from the original Bravely Default and Bravely Second. This support job allows you to boost your party’s stats through song. I’ve found it to be a great sub-job, especially when paired with White Mage.

Want to know how to unlock the Bard job in Bravely Default II? As is the case with most jobs in this game, you’ll receive the Asterisk and the job after a boss battle. To become a Bard, you’ll need to defeat the devious Orpheus Tragoidia.

Orpheus isn’t quite as tough as some of the previous bosses in the game, but he does have a few tricks up his sleeve. He can inflict Sleep on your party members and consume all the Brave Points that they’ve accumulated. The best way to avoid this is to equip your characters with the Clothespin accessory, which gives you sleep immunity.

You’ll also want to strike Orpheus with some hard-hitting attacks. Orpheus is weak to Water magic, which means having a Black Mage in your party is a must. You’ll also want to get some levels on a Monk if you can. Monks can be damage powerhouses, and a Monk/Black Mage combo will help you make short work of Orpheus.

Once you’ve unlocked a new job, I always recommend assigning it to a character and grinding for Job Points as soon as you can. You can change jobs any time you’re not in battle, and being able to adjust your party composition as needed can make Bravely Default II a lot easier.

The boss fights ahead are a lot tougher than this one, which is why you’ll want to make sure you get some levels on Bard right away. From protective to offensive buffs, a Bard can strengthen your your entire party.
