Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town

You can own pets in Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town, and these pets like to play. This is where the Bouncy Ball and the Mouse Ball come into play. The Bouncy Ball is made for dogs, while the Mouse Ball is made for cats. However, using these items isn’t exactly intuitive, so here’s a quick guide.

First up, you can purchase either of these items at the General Store. Each one costs 200G, and you’ll definitely want to purchase a few rather than just one. If you end up tossing them into the Shipping Bin to resell them, you’ll only get 100G a piece, so these don’t have great resell value.

Now, the important thing to note about the balls is that you can’t use them unless you’re walking your pet. So you’ll need to have the leash selected, then go to your animal and select the “Walk” option by pressing Y. Now, your pet should start following you around. You can even take them into town!

Once you’re leading your pet, you can now use the ball. You’ll need to be in an open space, otherwise you won’t be able to toss the ball, but when you’re in a place where your pet won’t get stuck on any objects, you should have the option to toss the ball a few tiles ahead of you by pressing the Y button.

Keep in mind that each ball is single-use; you won’t get it back after you’ve tossed it. I guess they’re either super cheap so they fall apart in your pet’s mouth, or your pet is just really good at losing them. Either way, you can’t retrieve a ball once you’ve thrown it. And remember, to end your walk, simply walk up to your pet with the leash selected and press Y again.

These basically work like treats. You can feed your pet a treat once per day to increase friendship (you can keep feeding them, but only the first treat that day will increase your friendship rating). Likewise, you can increase friendship once per day by tossing a ball. So, for max bonding, you’ll want to pet, walk, feed, and play fetch with your critter once per day.

And that’s basically everything you need to know about the Bouncy Ball and the Mouse Ball in Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town.
