Prinny Presents NIS Classics Vol. 1

Nippon Ichi finally announced a launch date for Disgaea 6 today, which I’m very excited about. But there was another announcement from the quirky Japanese game studio that shouldn’t get lost in the shuffle: Prinny Presents NIS Classics Vol. 1 is coming to Nintendo Switch and PC this summer.

What exactly is Prinny Presents NIS Classics Vol. 1? Well, it’s a bundle of two classic Nippon games that are releasing together in one bundle. Included here are Phantom Brave: The Hermuda Triangle Remastered and Soul Nomad & the World Eaters, both containing all the content that was added across their many rereleases.

Phantom Brave, originally released for the PS2 in 2004, uses a gridless system where character movement is limited by something called “DM.” Its postgame features a handful of characters from the Disgaea series, so that’s exciting for Disgaea fans like myself.

Soul Nomad & the World Eaters is a strategy RPG that originally released on the PS2 in 2007 (it released in Japan under the title Soul Cradle Sekai o Kurau Mono). This also isn’t a grid-based TRPG (like Disgaea) — combat here plays out more like it does in La Pucelle: Tactics.

If you’re into collector’s editions, well, this one is getting a real doozy. Here’s what’s in it:

  • Prinny Presents NIS Classics Volume 1: Phantom Brave: The Hermuda Triangle Remastered / Soul Nomad & the World Eaters game for Nintendo Switch
  • NIS Classics Vol. 1 Compendium Hardcover Art Book
  • NIS Classics Vol. 1 Anthology Complete 2-Disc Soundtrack
  • Soul Nomad & the World Eaters Acrylic Stand with Collector’s Coin
  • Phantom Brave: The Hermuda Triangle Remastered Acrylic Stand with Collector’s Coin
  • Collector’s Box

The Limited Edition is currently available for pre-order on the NISA Online Store.

It’s exciting to see even more of Nippon Ichi’s titles landing on Nintendo Switch (many of the Disgaea games are there already), and the Vol. 1 in the title suggests there will be more to come.
