Grotto Is a Narrative-Based Game with a Gorgeous Visual Style

Grotto

If you’re a fan of narrative-rich games and gorgeous art, then Grotto should definitely be on your radar. Developed by Brainwash Gang out of Madrid, Spain, Grotto puts you in the shoes of the Soothsayer, who is called upon to read the stars and advise a tribe of…

Well, I was going to say “people,” but based on the trailer, that might not be an accurate description. I mean, the first line of the trailer is, “Once, shortly after people had existed at all…” And after that, we see some anthropomorphic creatures, including a frog, a deer, and a wolf.

The real draw here is definitely the visual style. All of the aforementioned critters are drawn with a dark comic-book style, which works really well here. I’m definitely intrigued.

There aren’t a ton of details yet, but here’s a list of features, straight from a press release:

  • Look to the sky from the sacred rock, draw the constellations, and read the stars.
  • Learn to read the bones and foretell the future or contact those who are gone.
  • Get to know your people and help them face their problems.
  • Choose wisely your answers as you’ll change the present and future of your tribe. They will thrive or die depending on your words.
  • A visual style that mixes 2D and 3D art brings the confined world of Grotto to life.

Grotto is slated for release in Q3 or Q4 of 2021 for PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and iOS. If you want to know more — and witness that lovely art style for yourself — you can check out the announcement trailer below.
