Scenery Takes Center Stage in the Biomutant World Trailer

Biomutant

Biomutant is just over a month away now, and the Half-Glass Gaming crew is getting ready to really sink our mutant teeth into this one. Biomutant made the list of our most anticipated games of 2021 for good reason: This post-apocalyptic RPG comes from some of the folks who worked on the Just Cause series, and it features furry critters that are a little more, erm, adorable? than what you might expect from this sort of game.

But what about the game world itself? Well, publisher THQ Nordic has released a brand new trailer today to show off a bit of the scenery. And this is a world that’s much more Horizon Zero Dawn than, say, Fallout. You have a blend of dilapidated, crumbling buildings with gorgeous natural scenery. Visually, this world is bright and popping with color. If the dreary color scheme of past post-apocalyptic RPGs has been getting you down, Biomutant has an almost cheerful look to it.

Personally, I love this. I really admire when game developers can craft a bright and beautiful world in which to tell a grim story. It’s a really neat trick of visual storytelling where you always feel like there’s something nasty lingering beneath the surface, but you’re never sure quite what it is. You always want to feel like everything will be okay, but you’re never quite sure you can.

Anyway, Biomutant will be available May 25, 2021, for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. You can check out the Biomutant World trailer below.
