CryoFall

After spending a few days away from CryoFall (having pretty much only learned the basics in my first couple hours of initial playtime), I logged back in to find that the neighborhood I had decided to settle in had outgrown my hovel by leaps and bounds. Having originally been an area occupied by rag-wearing, wooden-house-dwelling newbies, I was now the only peasant amongst the rulers of expansive factories and sprawling bases.

Not only that, but all of the other players around me had advanced into metal armor and firearms, harvesting drones and other doo-dads and apparatuses I could only imagine the purposes of and requirements. The nice part about CryoFall and its sort-of top-down viewpoint, though, is being able to “peak over the fence” and marvel at the spectacles goings on within your neighbor’s abodes.

CryoFall

This last bit really got me enthused about spending more time with CryoFall, diving into the systems and learning how to myself become the king of my castle, the proverbial queen of the county. And let me just say, neighbor envy can be a powerful motivator.

After causally wandering into one factory — completely uninvited, of course –, I was greeted by a gun-toting figure in what appeared to be a suit of armor, feverishly gesturing for me to vamoose and mind my own beeswax. The fact that this other player character, after surmising I was in fact just a waif and not merely cosplaying as one, decided to take it upon themselves to watch over me as I gathered resources amongst the many vicious wild animals, even actively aiding my with their trusty shotgun when a few boar got too familiar with the taste of my character’s flesh.

This steely guardian angel seemed nonplussed by the close proximity of my shanty to their marvel of modern architecture, thus letting me continue in my attempts to connect four walls around my raggedy rucksack bed. And it was within this bed that I would ultimately rest for the night, signing off in the shadow of their megalopolis, basking in the residual warmth of a well-fortified, well-oiled base of operations.

That fortress served as a beacon of inspiration for us lowly plebes. I, too, would like to reach this level of confidence within the world of CryoFall. It won’t happen today, but maybe soon, my friends. Maybe soon.
