Salt and Sacrifice

Salt and Sanctuary is a hand-drawn, side-scrolling 2D Soulslike that I put on my list of game recommendations for fans of Demon’s Souls. At E3 2021, Ska Studios unveiled the follow-up, Salt and Sacrifice, which looks to be more of a spiritual successor than a true sequel.

Based on everything I’ve seen so far, this looks to take the basic format of Salt and Sanctuary and refine it. The art looks even better than before. The gameplay looks smoother. The boss design is absolutely incredible.

If the little taste we got during E3 wasn’t enough to whet your appetite, don’t fret, for almost ten minutes of gameplay were revealed in a new video.

In it, we see several locations, including Ashbourne Village, Root-Ceil Cavern, and Greymoss Mire. We also get to see solo gameplay one of the game’s boss fights — a giant knight with an antlered helm (the death animation is incredible) — and co-op gameplay of another boss later on in the video. There’s even a gameplay sequence that shows off the grappling hook tool.

We also get a look at the animal-petting mechanics, which we’re always fans of here at Half-Glass Gaming.

You can check out the Salt and Sacrifice gameplay video below, and you can get some more details in this PlayStation Blog post.
