If you’ve never played a Metal Slug game, you should probably get on that. Metal Slug is an uber-ridiculous side-scrolling shooter from the 1990s. It’s action-packed, it’s over-the-top, and the pixel art is absolutely incredible. It’s just stupid amounts of fun to play.
During Summer Game Fest 2021, we got a surprise announcement of a new game in the series, Metal Slug Tactics. This is not a typical side-scrolling shooter, though; instead, it’s a tactical RPG in the vein of the Front Mission games. And really, Metal Slug looks like it makes the genre jump pretty seamlessly.
Metal Slug Tactics looks like it takes everything that’s great about the Metal Slug franchise and confines it to grid-base tactical battlefields. And if you check out the trailer, you’ll realize how incredibly well this actually could work. In fact, now that I’ve seen it, I can’t believe it took 25 years to bake this tasty recipe.
Metal Slug Tactics already has a Steam listing, so you can add it to your Wishlist, but we don’t yet have a release date.
