Red Dead Online - Quick Draw Club

With Red Dead Online‘s Blood Money update comes a new type of season pass. Gone are the old Outlaw Passes (though it’s possible we’ll see them return at some point in the future), replaced by the Quick Draw Club series. Instead of one 100-level pass stretched across four months (like butter scraped over too much bread, as Bilbo Baggins put it), we’re now getting four 25-level passes, each about four weeks long. Buying into each one gets you rewards for the next one, and buying into all four grants you free access to this year’s Halloween Pass.

Quick Draw Club Pass No. 1 has officially arrived in Red Dead Online, so let’s take a look at what’s in it. Here’s a complete breakdown of RDO‘s first Quick Draw Pass.

How long does Quick Draw Club Pass No. 1 last?

This pass runs from July 13 to August 9. The second pass will begin immediately after this one expires, on August 9.

How do I see the contents of Quick Draw Pass No. 1?

Red Dead Online - Menu

There are two ways to navigate to the pass. First, you can go to the Benefits section of the in-game menu (which you can access by pressing the Options button on PlayStation or the Esc. key on PC). From here, the pass should show up in a panel called Club Rewards (by default, this should say Rank 0). This panel should be in the bottom right-hand side of your screen.

The second way to get to this section is to go to the Progress section of the menu. This menu also features a panel for the pass, but this time it’s located on the left-hand side of the screen.

Once you’re here, you can look through all 25 ranks to see what you’ll be unlocking over the course of the micro-season. Surprisingly, Dutch’s outfit, the Redcliffe, will be unlocked at Level 5 (I had initially assumed it would have been the final reward for the pass).

How do I purchase Quick Draw Pass No. 1?

Red Dead Online - Quick Draw Club

So, this part is always confusing. When you’re looking at the pass, there are three rows of rewards. The top row is the free stuff, while the bottom two rows are the premium rewards. You will earn the stuff in the top row whether you buy into the pass or not. What you’re actually buying into is the bottom two rows.

If you have one of the free rewards selected, you won’t see the option to buy the pass. Navigate your cursor to one of the premium rewards, and you’ll see text that says “Buy The Quick Draw Club” next to a button icon. Simply hold down that button (X on PlayStation) to purchase the premium pass. You will end up on a confirmation screen, at which point you’ll have to hold the button down again to finalize the purchase.

If you buy the pass after you’ve already leveled it up, you will have instant access to any of the premium rewards you would have earned already. So, if you level up to Rank 10, then purchase the premium pass, you’ll instantly unlock all premium rewards up to Rank 10.

How do I level up the pass?

Red Dead Online - Blood Money

Any XP you earn in the game will be applied to your Quick Draw Pass. So if your character gains 100 XP (for picking up a collectible, say), your pass will also gain 100 XP. (Note that XP is applied to both your character and the pass, not just the pass).

In the previous Outlaw Pass, every level had a consistent amount of XP to earn in order to level it up. To progress from rank 1 to 2 would take 1,440 XP. To progress from rank 79 to 80? 1,440 XP. This time, there are escalating tiers. The early tiers will be super fast (I believe the first tier requires just 100 XP), while the later tiers will start to move pretty slowly.

Even so, this whole pass is easily completable for a casual player, and hardcore players will blast through it in a day. In fact, I think I’ll probably have it maxed out on both of my characters before the first day is over.

Is the Quick Draw Club Pass No. 1 worth it?

Red Dead Online - Faircroft Hat

This is always a tricky question for me to answer. I buy every single pass, but my RDO character is rolling in gold at this point so I really don’t even notice the loss. My general rule of thumb, though, is if you have 25 Gold Bars lying around, and if you plan on playing the game at all over the next four weeks, then go for it. If you can progress through all 25 ranks in four weeks, you’ll earn all your gold back.

Plus, I think the Redcliff outfit is really nice, and I’m willing to plunk down 25 Gold Bars just for that. The Cattleman Revolver Variant is pretty cool, especially since I actually use the Cattleman (I like the way it sounds more than the Navy or the LeMat, though stat-wise the Cattleman is objectively inferior to the other two I’ve mentioned). I also think the Faircroft Hat is fun, with its goofy little raccoon tail. I’m really not a big fan of any of the other cosmetics, but I’ll make use of some of the coupons. All of this is gravy, of course, on top of that incredible Redcliff outfit.

If you have to actually buy the gold with real-world money, I would say to hold off. You can buy the pass at any time over its lifespan (until August 9), and whatever progress you earn in the free portion will carry over to the premium portion. So if you find yourself at Rank 25 on August 9 and you still haven’t purchased it yet, you can purchase the premium pass and get all of the rewards at once.

In the meantime, you have four weeks to grind some gold. My RDO gold farming guide should help you scrape up 25 Gold Bars in no time.
