It took me longer than it should have to get around to playing Control, I admit. But now that I’m waist-deep, I’m loving every minute of it. Coming off what little I played of Quantum Break, Control feels like Remedy has risen from the aftermath of their previous game’s somewhat uneven reception — like a Phoenix rising out of Arizona.

But, after stumbling upon an in-game photo, I’m left wondering, what is the deal with Control?

Specifically I’m referring to this photo, found during the mission The Face of the Enemy (possible visual spoilers ahead):

Control - Coffee Soap

If you are at all familiar with the popular 1990s sitcom Seinfeld, then surely you will recognize this iconic restaurant façade as Jerry’s favorite java spot, Monk’s Café. Although in the Control iteration of it, the name of the diner is COFFEE SOAP! which is odd.

Now, Monk’s Café is actually based on Tom’s Restaurant in New York, so the real name for the establishment is Tom’s.

Seinfeld - Monk's

But that brings me back to the question: What is the deal with Control?

Apparently, this game takes place in some sort of a reality similar to — but apparently not specifically — the one inhabited by Jerry, Elaine, George, and Kramer. Unless Monk’s Café decided to change its name to COFFEE SOAP!, which would be a really strange decision.

In any event, this is a really awesome Easter egg, and it makes me wonder if I missed any other gems like this along the way. If you’ve caught anything that tickles your fancy, feel free to shout about it in the comments.
