So, I was exploring Planimal Point, which is the name of the town in Monster Harvest, when I made a startling discovery. Planimal Point has a graveyard, and there are already tombstones here.
Normally, this wouldn’t be cause for alarm, but the game really makes a point of driving home the fact that this town basically sprung up overnight. Keep in mind this is a town that has maybe a dozen or so residents, so the six gravestones here means the death rate is pretty high.
Now, I suppose this really depends on what the game means by “almost overnight.” Do they mean over the course of a few weeks? A few months? A few years? If it’s the last option, I suppose that scans, though it does mean that about a third of the residents have died over the course of a few years.
And this makes me wonder what’s killing these folks? One of the gravestones is a double-header, with heart shapes, which makes me assume this was a married couple. That’s pretty odd, because even if this town was around for a few years, I doubt these people died of old age. Why would a retired elderly couple move out to Planimal Point so close to the end of their lives?
No, this was a young couple, perhaps taken by a serial killer, or in a car accident, or a factory explosion. Yeah, the factory explosion seems not-entirely-unlikely, as this town sprung up around a scientific discovery (the ability to turn plants into animals).
And what’s SlimeCo’s role in all this? Not even Professor Spark (your uncle) seems to know what their deal is. What are they covering up? Why is their building perpetually empty? What is their business even?
I don’t know the answers to any of these questions, but I intend to get to the bottom of this. If I survive my first year on the farm, that is. It seems like there’s about a 33% chance that I’ll end up buried here…
Moving to Planimal Point might end up being the last mistake I ever make.
