September 23 Nintendo Direct

Nintendo announced this morning that they’ll stream a new Nintendo Direct tomorrow, September 23, at 6:00 p.m. Eastern. They plan to mainly focus on games launching “this winter” for the Nintendo Switch. Keep in mind that winter technically runs through March of 2022, so we can expect to see titles that will be releasing within the next six months. Also, “mainly” does not mean “only,” so here’s to hoping we get a surprise or two mixed in.

Realistically, though, what can we expect? Let’s start with some hardware news:

The FCC posted a filing regarding a new controller for the Nintendo Switch. If you recall, there was a SNES controller for the Switch introduced alongside the introduction of Super Nintendo games coming to Nintendo Switch Online. Could this mean we see a new console added? It seems likely, given the rumors and buzz regarding the addition of Nintendo 64 and GameBoy Advance titles to the Online collection. One of those rumors is louder than the other, though, due to the fact that…

Castlevania Advance Collection seems to have been leaked by Play-Asia. While a link to the formerly working site is no longer valid, both Google’s cached info and a screenshot via 4-Chan seem to indicate someone let the site go live a little too early:

Castlevania Play Asia

Games that have firm release dates — such as Metroid Dread, Nickelodeon All-Stars Brawl, Alan Wake Remastered (recently rated in Brazil), and Shin Megami Tensei V, among others — should receive a shout-out at minimum.

We’re still due one more DLC character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, so we could see a reveal at the event. Personally, I’m pulling for Doom Guy or Master Chief, but we’ll see what happens. It’ll probably be another sword fighter, because reasons. Although, the Knight from Hollow Knight is a sword fighter, and I’ll gladly take him in. Which can lead into…

Some news about Hollow Knight: Silksong, as well as some news about Sports Story.

I’m venturing away from realistic expectations now, I’m sorry for going of the rails there.

Bowser's Fury

Regardless of what happens, we’re going to get a solid 40 minutes of information from Nintendo here, which is always exciting.
