Final Fantasy XIV - Endwalker

I’ve said it before, but playing Final Fantasy XIV in 2021 feels a little bit like a race against time. Well, unless you’ve been good about staying up to date with new content. I obviously haven’t been.

The game’s newest expansion, Endwalker, is just around the corner, and players have to make it through the entire main story in A Realm Reborn, plus the Heavensward, Stormblood, and Shadowbringers expansions to experience pretty much anything the new expansion offers (with the exception of the level cap increase).

I just finished Stormblood myself, which means I still have the entire Shadowbringers expansion to get through. I’d really like to experience the Endwalker story along with the rest of the world, since I haven’t been caught up on this massive game since the launch of 2.0 back in 2013. So I’ve been sweating Gunbreaker bullets over here.

If you’ve been following the word on the Final Fantasy street, then you’ve probably heard that Endwalker has been delayed to December 7 (with Patch 6.0 and early access launching on December 3). While a lot of people are a bit saddened by the news (perhaps there are none as sad as Yoshi-P), I’m actually kind of relieved.

Now, not only do I have time to complete Shadowbringers, but I also have time to clean up some of the side stuff I’ve been meaning to get to. I’m particularly excited to check out the Omega raids from Stormblood, as I hear the story of those might end up being important come Endwalker. Plus, if the Binding Coils of Bahamut and Alexander are anything to go by, then some of the game’s best story content is actually tied to its raids. I’d love to experience as much of this content as possible before jumping into the next expansion.

So while the world around me sheds tears of sorrow, I’ve been given an extension on my Shadowbringers deadline. I’m feeling more optimistic than ever before that being ready for Endwalker is actually possible for me.

Yes, I’m a slacker, and the Endwalker delay is actually really, really good news for those of us in the slacker brigade.

Then again, I might just end up playing Triple Triad all November…
