Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle

Daymare: 1998 was a surprising little gem that I happened upon during some random PlayStation sale. Sure, the title seems a bit silly, I guess, but that made it stand out amongst all of the other games that I didn’t buy — say what you will, but it definitely got my attention. And although Daymare: 1998 was a bit geriatric in its dedication to emulating the look and feel of older survival horror games (like the original Resident Evil games), it was still a fun, somewhat challenging, somewhat grossed-out experience.

So imagine my surprise when I found out that it must have performed pretty well — at least well enough to warrant a sequel (or rather a prequel, I would imagine, based on the convenient naming convention)

In Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle, you will play as Dalila Reyes, a former government spy working for the elite private military group operated by Hexacore from Daymare: 1998, AKA H.A.D.E.S. (Hexacore Advanced Division for Extraction and Search). And no, not that Hades. Or this one… I imagine one can expect a similar experience to 1998, albeit one that could delve deeper into the backstory of the outbreak and the events of the first game.

Hopefully developer Invader Studios will be able to fine-tune the gameplay from 1998 and round off some of the rougher edges, while still keeping with the general survival horror formula of the first game.

As it turns out, we won’t have to wait long to find out how this one plays, since a demo will be featured in the upcoming Steam Next Fest, which runs from February 21 through February 28. That’s, like, next week, man!

You can wishlist Daymare 1994: Sandcastle on Steam to make sure you stay up-to-date on when that demo goes live — or for updates on the game in general. In the meantime, you can check out the demo teaser trailer below.
