Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - Luigi Death Stare

Way back in May of 2017, I wrote an article called “Can We Expect More Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC in the Future?” In it, I talk about how with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Nintendo has a shot at continuing to make the game more complete by adding more courses from the series’ long history.

Well, I wasn’t wrong; it just took almost five years for it to become a reality.

Yes, at the February 2022 Nintendo Direct, we learned that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is finally getting more tracks. If you think it’s just a small batch, well, think again. There are six waves of DLC courses incoming, with each wave containing eight additional tracks. Yeah, that’s a total of 48 more tracks.

This won’t all be coming at once, of course. The first wave is due out March 18, and waves will be released into 2023.

You can buy the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass for $24.99, but if you’re already subscribed to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass, the courses will be included at no extra charge.

While people are champing at the bit for Mario Kart 9, I think it really makes sense to just expand Mario Kart 8 to a ludicrous degree, the way Nintendo handed Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. And considering there are already 48 courses in the game, this DLC will bring the total to 96. That’s sheer insanity, and I love it.

And, I mean, we could all use some more Luigi death stare in our lives, right?

You can check out the trailer for the DLC below.
