Quantum Error

Sony has been on a bit of a horror-themed tear lately. The quirky Ghostwire: Tokyo released on March 25, and it traffics in demonic and spiritual themes of the macabre. This was followed by the spooky feel of the also Yokai-centric Ikai, which hit PlayStation consoles (as well as Nintendo Switch and Steam) on March 29. And judging by the latest trailer for the cosmic horror-themed Quantum Error, Sony is continuing its trend of delivering goosebumps and jump-scares to owners of its consoles.

Although there is no confirmed release date, I suspect that Quantum Error could be launching relatively soon, since the latest trailer claims you can wishlist it on PS5. I, however, was able to do this, since a quick search on the PlayStation storefront resulted in everything quantum- or error-related, but nothing actually related to Quantum Error. Considering Sony is notorious for letting smaller titles get lost in the shuffle, I suppose I shouldn’t be all that surprised.

Wonky wishlists aside, Quantum Error is set in a remote research facility based 30 miles off the coast of California. After a mysterious wall of fire surrounds the facility, fire rescue teams are dispatched from San Francisco to rescue as many survivors as possible.

Quantum Error

You will take on the role of Fire Capt. Jacob Thomas, who, along with his partner Shane Costa and the rest of their crew, spring into action to save the day. However, as one might expect, shortly after arriving at the Monad Quantum Research Facility, things go awry and the situation goes from search-and-rescue to pure survival.

As far as trailers go, this one is pretty slick. It does a nice job of setting the tone while giving just enough disjointed glimpses at characters, monsters, and plot elements to pique my interest. The sound direction is also pretty spot-on, taking the mood to the next level. What does any of this actually mean? I haven’t the faintest idea, to be honest. That said, I am itching to find out more, so I guess this trailer is a job well done.

For now, I guess all we can do is wait to see what other details bubble up to the surface while nibbling on the tasty morsels provided by the trailer below.

Quantum Error will be coming to PS5. If you look at older trailers on the game’s official website, it does seem like PS4 and Xbox Series X versions were at least on the table at one point. It’s hard to say if that’s still the case or if those versions got scrapped to streamline development and narrow the focus.

Either way, I can’t wait to learn more about Quantum Error.
