Weird West

I’ve mentioned elsewhere that Weird West is a game that lets you play as an absolute scoundrel if you prefer to do so. What I failed to mention back then, however, is that the game often deals out pretty intense consequences for those actions.

Thankfully, Weird West creative director Raphael Colantonio has my back. He narrates an 80-second video that lays out the consequences system in the game, where the actions you take early on could vastly affect the world later.

For example, if you kill everyone in a town, you’ll turn it into a ghost town. Eventually, all sorts of wacky western weirdos will move in to inhabit the ruins. I’m speaking, of course, of zombies.

One thing I did notice in my play time (which admittedly has mostly been spent bounty hunting) is that if you go into a situation with guns blazing, one or two enemies might book it for the exit. If they get away, they’ll trigger a vendetta, which means that at some random point in the future, they’ll show up to harass you. If this happens in the middle of a firefight, it could mean that suddenly you’re at war with two groups of enemies instead of just one. That could spell certain doom for the unprepared.

Anyway, I can’t wait to see what other secrets I might dig up in this supernatural Western. In the meantime, you can watch the full “Road to Weird West: Episode 5” video below.

Weird West will be available digitally on March 31 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One (it will also be a day-one Game Pass release on Xbox). A physical version for PS4 is also in the pipes thanks to the folks at Special Reserve Games.
