Sniper Elite 5

Rebellion, developer of the incredibly fun and rewarding Sniper Elite 5, just dropped a new trailer highlighting the many praises that have been heaped upon the game. For my money, it is a well-deserved victory lap.

I was mostly optimistic about Sniper Elite 5 — especially after Half-Glass Gaming’s David Sanchez got some hands-on time with the game before launch. Yet I admittedly still had some trepidations about the game, since I’d had some quibbles about where the series has gone in the past.

Thankfully, Sniper Elite 5 shattered any reservations I had going in, and by the time I was done with the main campaign , I knew I had just played one of the best games of 2022 (you can read my review here). In some regards, especially for a third-person stealth-action title, this is one of the best games I’ve played in quite some time, even giving last year’s Hitman 3 a run for its money. Sniper Elite 5 is a high-water mark for the series, and for the genre in general.

I know a game is special when I continue to plug away at it long after finishing the campaign. When I reach for a game in my leisure time — even when faced with plenty of other games that are high on my list to tackle — and I only end up trying to mop up some collectibles or side content, or simply replay a level on a harder difficulty or to best my previous high score, that when I know a game has really spoken to me. And that’s exactly what I’m up to in Sniper Elite 5.

Based on the new accolades trailer, I am not alone in this.

You can check out the trailer below, and Sniper Elite 5 is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It is also available on Game Pass.
