I loved Marc Eckō’s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure, a 2006 third-person action game developed by The Collective. It was far from perfect, and in fact had a number of issues that hampered its greatness (namely, too much focus on a gonzo story and too great an emphasis on combat). Even so, it is still my favorite graffiti-centric video game ever made.
We will more than likely never see an official sequel, which takes what made the original great and delivers the perfect graf game, but Bombing!!: A Graffiti Sandbox looks like it might be the next… goodest thing. (At least, if you don’t own a VR headset, that is; if you do, then Graffiti Bombing might actually be the next best thing).
I hadn’t ever heard of Bombing!! until I was browsing the itch.io Indie Bundle for Abortion Funds bundle. But what better way to discover a possible gem then by also helping people get the funds needed to help support reproductive health rights? I mean, aside from getting it for free because the Supreme Court realized how out of touch they are and not only reversed but widened Roe V. Wade’s scope. But considering that’s a far cry from a possibility at this current juncture, obtaining Bombing!! through this bundle will just have to suffice.
Bombing!! looks fairly straightforward, with a low-res pixelated look that, for me, brings to mind the stellar Teardown game. But with the ability to to literally tag any surface, apparently in some semblance of an open world (although I can’t vouch for the size of that world at this point), sounds like a pretty chill prospect. There is even an in-game boom box you can shoulder-mount to harken back to the glory days of NYC graf writers and graffiti artists.
And heck, if you decide to take advantage of this bundle offer, you will also get like a million other indie titles, all for the base buy-in of $10 (although you can certainly choose to pay more should you be so inclined).
If Steam is your preferred avenue, you can also get Bombing!!: A Graffiti Sandbox there are well for half the price of the itch.io bundle price. And hey, why not check out a trailer for Bombing!! below while you’re here?
