Cult of the Lamb

Ever since the totally-not-E3-2022 Devolver Digital showcase in June, Cult of the Lamb has been one of my most anticipated games of this year. And then, when Devolver was kind enough to let me play the thing, I got a tiny little taste of just how doggone addictive this game is going to be.

Today, Devolver released a new trailer in their “Sermons of the Lamb” series, and this one introduces you to some of the characters you’ll meet in you Cult of the Lamb journey. (I did encounter some of these characters in my way-too-brief playtime.)

You’ve got Ratau, who serves as a guide, but apparently will let you play dice as well. Then there’s Clauneck, who will offer you tarot cards that can grant you perks and special abilities — choose wisely! Kudai is like a yellow version of Clauneck who deals weapons and curses instead of tarot cards. Helob is a spider who captures other characters in a web and then sells them (I didn’t encounter Helob in my play session, so I’m not completely clear on how this mechanic works). The Fisherman is your go-to guide for all things fish-related.

And, according to the trailer, this is just a small sampling of the characters you’ll meet along this colorful journey.

Cult of the Lamb is due out August 11, 2022, for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and PS5. You can wishlist the game on Steam now (and check out the demo while you’re at it), or just view the “Cultish Encounters” trailer below.
