Way of the Hunter

In real life, I only ever went hunting one time. I accidentally shot a bird and felt bad about it for weeks. I’m just not cut out for the animal-killing lifestyle, I guess. But on the other hand, I do romanticize the Great Outdoors, though admittedly, actually being outside generally makes me anxious to get back to hot showers and lightning-fast WiFi.

Thankfully, hunting games and survival games exist, allowing me to get my outdoor fix without actually going outdoors, and letting me kill things without having some majestic wild animal have to die.

So I’m looking forward to Way of the Hunter, from developer Nine Rocks Games and publisher THQ Nordic. This looks a little bit like a higher-quality version of Open Country, which I did enjoy despite its flaws (it’s biggest flaw, of course, being stupid Gary).

Way of the Hunter - Steyr Arms

Today, THQ Nordic announced a partnership with Steyr Arms, which will let them bring authentically re-created versions of Steyr’s hunting rifles into their digital wilderness. The rifle selection includes the Steyr Pro Hunter II, the Steyr Monobloc, and the Steyr Mannlicher SM12.

And look, I wouldn’t know the difference between an authentically re-created hunting rifle and something totally made up, but I do appreciate the level of detail here. The new trailer, in fact, has me salivating over these animal-killing machines.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that there’s a new trailer showcasing some of Steyr Arms’ offerings. You can check that out below.

Way of the Hunter, with its officially licensed arsenal of hunting rifles, is due out for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on August 16, 2022.
