Cult of the Lamb - Fishing

One of the side activities in Cult of the Lamb is fishing. While it’s not as complex as in a game like Animal Crossing or Cozy Grove, there’s still a lot to know about fishing in Cult of the Lamb. So I’m going to walk you through everything you need to know about catching fish in this demonic little game.

How to unlock fishing

Cult of the Lamb - The Fisherman

Before you can start fishing, you need to gain access to an area called Pilgrim’s Passage. To do so, you will just need to encounter a character named The Fisherman while in a dungeon. The Fisherman should appear in the Darkwood dungeon after you’ve beaten the first three dungeon bosses. Talk to him, and he will tell you to meet him at Pilgrim’s Passage. The location will now be available.

When you visit Pilgrim’s Passage, you will see the Fisherman in the bottom right corner of the map, near the water.

Talk to the Fisherman again, and he will ask you to catch a fish. Just move over to the location marked with a fish sign to initiate the fishing minigame (more on that later). Once you catch your first fish, talk to the Fisherman again to earn the Neptune’s Curse Tarot Card. (If you want a full list of Tarot Card unlocks, you can check out my full Tarot Card guide.)

After this, the Fisherman will ask you to catch four specific fish — Crab, Lobster, Octopus, and Squid. Note that some of these fish are super rare, but you can increase your chances of catching rare fish with the Ritual of the Ocean’s Bounty. Alternatively, you can hope to pop the Neptune’s Curse Tarot Card while in a dungeon, which lets you earn fish by killing enemies. If you get super, super lucky, you could complete this quest without ever fishing again (but fishing is the easier way to complete it).

Okay, so now let’s talk about how fishing works. Basically, you’ll just walk up to the fishing area, and press the A button (I’m using the Xbox controller here). By holding the A button, you will increase the distance of your cast, and once your line is in the water, you can slowly reel it back in by holding A.

You’ll see shadows of fish in the water, just like in Animal Crossing or Cozy Grove. As far as I can tell, the larger the shadow, the rarer the fish and the more fish you will catch when you reel it in (you’ll catch multiple fish per cast).

Once you have a fish hooked, you’ll simply try to line your hook with the moving bar inside the fishing meter. Blue means your hook is lined up, while red means it isn’t. Now, simply keep your hook within the moving bar and you will reel in a batch of fish.

That’s really all there is to it. Fishing is not super complex in Cult of the Lamb, and it can only be done in this one specific area.
