Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord

I’ve been interested in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord for quite some time now, but the $49.99 buy-in price for the Early Access version on Steam always felt like a bridge too far. I mean, it’s probably worth it, if the user reviews are to be believed, but $50 is kind of a lot to spend on a game that’s still in Early Access.

In fact, the last time I almost took the plunge, I ended up going the console pauper route instead, and I monkeyed around in Kingdom Come: Deliverance to get that Medieval roleplaying experience I was looking for. Since I managed to get Kingdom Come for $3, it was no big deal at all (and well worth the three bucks).

But with Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord finally coming to consoles, I think I’m going to actually play this on my trusty PS5. Yes, TaleWorlds Entertainment officially announced today that Mount & Blade II is coming to PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

This is kind of an expected announcement, because there was a leak earlier this summer that had the console version listed with an October 25 release date. It’s not clear whether or not that leaked release date is going to stick, but I think it’s possible, since a console demo will be playable at Gamescom 2022, which takes place toward the end of August, and the 1.0 version of the game is just over the horizon. I imagine TeleWorlds will want to synch the console release with the 1.0 launch.

Today’s press release is a little light on details, but I’ll post a little snippet of it for Medieval game enthusiasts to nibble on:

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord was released on Early Access in March 2020 to great success, and since then has received dozens of content updates, growing into an even bigger and more ambitious game. As the full release version of the game approaches, Bannerlord finally shows its anticipated console version at Gamescom for the first time.

Either way, I’m super excited for this. I’ve been on the fence about this game for a long time, and its console launch might be the thing to nudge me over the edge.
