Biomutant finally received an update for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, promising crisper visuals and up 60fps gameplay. I personally have been meaning to return to Biomutant for some time now, so this new update is the perfect excuse. And since it’s a free upgrade for anyone that owns the last-gen version, it’s a no-brainer.
Thankfully, the process was incredibly simple for me. I just loaded up my PS5, went into my library, and clicked on the PS4 version of Biomutant. And on the right side of the screen was a prompt to download the PS5 version. After that was installed, from the in game start menu you can easily transfer over any last-gen save to continue your progress without having to start over.
One thing to be aware of, though, is that if you got the preorder DLC bonus Mercenary starting class with the last-gen version, you will need to manually download the updated DLC as well, otherwise you won’t be able to utilize any save that was using that player class. It took me slightly longer to find the link on PSN, but once I did and it was installed, I was off to the races. No prob, Bob.
For all of its foibles, I thought Biomutant was a solid and unique game, and I’m looking forward to hopefully finishing it this time around. And hopefully with the enhanced visuals, better framerate, and faster load times, it will feel like my first time playing it all over again.
