Cult of the Lamb

A few days ago, Half-Glass Gaming’s Lucas Kurmis wrote a piece about how he’d gotten himself stuck in Cult of the Lamb due to an odd bug. Basically, if you have no followers, the game will pop up the “A Shepherd Without a Flock” notification, which gives you a set amount of time to gain a follower. If you fail to do so within the time given, you will fail and the game will end.

However, there’s a bug where you’ll get the notification, even if you do have followers, as you can see in the screenshot below.

Lucas ignored this notification, assuming it would go away once it realized he wasn’t follower-less, but it never did. Even worse, the game autosaved with 30 seconds left on the clock. That got him into a hard-lock situation, where he didn’t have enough time to gain a new follower, so his only option was to let the timer expire and have the game come to an end.

In the meantime, we reached out to our contact at Massive Monster, who told us to put in a support ticket. We ended up getting a response that gave us a workaround, so we thought we’d share that with our readers. Hopefully, this helps anyone who’s currently stuck in the same situation as Lucas.

In the hub area where you enter the game’s various dungeons, you’ll find a spider named Helob who will sell you a follower for a set amount of coins. The follower and amount are both random, but sometimes you can get a really good deal, while other times you’re going to get ripped off.

Basically, this is the fastest way to get a new follower, and Lucas was able to accomplish this in the nick of time.

Of course, there are still some ways for this to go wrong. Perhaps your game autosaved with less than 30 seconds on the clock and you can’t make it to Helob in time. Or maybe you don’t have enough coins to make the transaction. In either of these cases, you could still find yourself stuck.

Hopefully Massive Monster squishes this bug soon, because Cult of the Lamb is fantastic, and it’s obviously much better if you don’t get yourself hard-locked out of completing the game.
