Nitro Kid

Wildboy Studios’ Nitro Kid looks like a very promising deckbuilding roguelike, both in terms of its presentation and its gameplay. Visually, the game has a neon-drenched aesthetic, which is fitting considering the story is set in the ‘80s. Speaking of which, the plot is totally in line with ‘80s action movies and sees our protagonists, a group of super soldiers, attempting to take down an evil megacorporation that experiments on children.

The stages in Nitro Kid look a lot like something you’d see in a tactical turn-based RPG. You’ve got an isometric camera view and limited space filled with hostile enemies. It’s up to you as agents L33, J4X, and K31 to survive armed with your wits and deck of ability cards.

The three characters in Nitro Kid all offer something different. L33 is your martial arts expert. J4X is a boxer who serves as your tank and bears a striking resemblance to Mike Tyson. And K31 is a firearms professional who can utilize both long-range and short-range attacks.

Nitro Kid Gameplay

Like most deckbuilding roguelike games, it definitely seems like your success in Nitro Kid will depend on how well you utilize the hand you’re dealt, as well as your characters’ abilities, strengths, and weaknesses.

Nitro Kid is coming soon and will be available on PC via Steam on October 18, 2022. If you’ve got a hankering for a new deckbuilding roguelike, this one looks pretty promising.
