Shovel Knight Dig

In Shovel Knight Dig‘s randomly generated worlds, you’re going to find a lot of golden gears scattered throughout the mines. These are called Cogs, and you’re going to want to collect as many of them as you can.

So what do they do? Well, every section of a stage has three Cogs, and when you reach the end of a section, a container will appear. That container has three slots on it for Cogs, and it will release gemstones based on how many Cogs you’ve found.

But it gets better…

If you get all three Cogs in a section of a stage, the container will open, spilling all of its contents on the ground for you to collect.

And it gets even better…

If you get a container to open up, it will also offer you two choices. On the left, there’s food, which will restore a bit of your health, and on the right there’s a question mark icon, which will give you a random accessory or relic.

To claim your prize, you’ll need to break open the side that has the item you want. So if you want to heal, break open the left side (which should have a picture of a roasted turkey on it), and if you want the item, break open the right side (which should have a picture of a question mark on it.

If you want to see how many Cogs you currently possess, there is a section of your UI that has three gear icons. That will tell you how many you have (at the end of a stage section, you’ll go back to having 0 Cogs, so you will never have more than three at a time).

And that’s pretty much everything you need to know about Cogs in Shovel Knight Dig.
