IO Interactive has made much ado about Hitman 3‘s upcoming Freelancer mode. This new game mode blends Hitman’s stealth/assassin gameplay with roguelite and extraction elements — equipment you bring into the field is lost upon death, but equipment you acquire and bring back to your base is yours to keep.
It sounds like a ton of fun, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. However, before today, we didn’t really know when that was going to be. IO Interactive has now revealed the release date for this new game mode: January 26, 2023. That’s just over two years after Hitman 3‘s launch on January 20, 2021.
So I guess even though this was supposed to be a party of the “Year 2” content, it’s actually Year 3…
In the meantime, IO Interactive is going to start stress testing Freelancer mode with the Hitman 3 Freelancer Closed Technical Test. It sounds like this will be a closed beta period that will be invite-only and exclusive to the PC version of the game. The testing period begins in November, but IO is planning on sharing more details on October 27 in their first “Road to Freelancer” post.
And for those who (like me) are waiting for the October 2022 roadmap, it will be here on October 6, so keep your eyes open for that.
