Hitman 3‘s Freelance Mode is a completely new way to play the Hitman games. This works like an Extraction-style game mode, where the gear you acquire on a mission is yours to keep, but the gear you lose out in the field is gone forever.
And, of course, this comes with an absolute boatload of unlocks, so I’m going to walk you through absolutely everything that can be unlocked or acquired in Hitman 3‘s Freelancer game mode (just like I did for the main game — you can see that ridiculously huge guide by clicking here).
One thing that’s important to note here is that this guide is based off the beta version of Freelancer. Now that the release version of Freelancer is here, I’ve made an updated guide (which you can find here), but the guide in front of you right now only covers the beta version. I’m keeping this guide around just in case anyone wants to do a version comparison or anything like that.
Once again, the full guide can be found right here; the guide below is for the closed beta test.
Mastery Unlocks
You’ll earn XP while you’re out on Freelancer missions, and that will cause your Mastery to level up. Each level comes with some rewards. Aside from the Merces, which can be lost if you die out in the field, and Thematic Weapons (which I’ll explain in the Thematic Weapons section of this guide), the rest of these unlocks are permanent.
I want to point out again that this list comes from the Freelancer beta, and there are some obvious problems with it. For example, the Bedroom is unlocked at level 24 according to the Mastery menu, but if you actually walk to the bedroom, it says it’s unlocked at level 31. Also, the Mastery menu only goes up to 25, but there are guns in the rack that are unlocked as high as level 60. So I do have to assume these unlock levels are going to be shuffled significantly before the full release of this game mode.
With all that said, here’s the complete list:

Weapons
There are a couple ways to acquire weapons. You can either loot them off of guards in levels, or you can buy them from vendors scattered across the game. The locations of these vendors is randomized, and their shop selection will be randomized as well.
You’ll notice these items in the world because they have a Rarity level. If an item has no Rarity level, taking it back to the Safehouse will not bank it. If you take a weapon out of the Safehouse and die, you will lose that weapon. There’s also what seems to be a bug where if you have a particular weapon banked at your Safehouse, and you find a second one in a mission and die, you will lose that weapon from your Safehouse. So be careful out there.
Weapons in your Safehouse can be found on the walls (near the entrance to the firing range).

Thematic Weapons
This last category of weapons is a little odd because it doesn’t function like the others. These are unlocked via Mastery Level, and you’ll unlock one every five levels (except for Level 35, for some reason). Note that I’ve also posted these in the Mastery section of this guide.
When you unlock a Thematic Weapon, you will have to manually add it to the case by interacting with the unlock icon. After that, you can lose these weapons out in the field, just like any other weapons. However, if you lose one, it can later show up as part of a vendor’s supply so you can buy it back. This means you won’t permanently lose a Thematic Weapon. Still, I’d be hesitant to take one out in the field if you’re really going for a full gun rack, because this will be the hardest section to restock after losing a weapon.

Tools
Tools work kind of the same as weapons, but also kind of different. They’re the same in that you acquire them in the exact same way: Find them out in missions or buy them from vendors. However, you can also find them in crates in missions (typically, these crates don’t contain weapons, though I’m not sure this is true 100% of the time).
If you fail a Campaign, you will lose all of your tools. They do not carry over from campaign to campaign, so use ’em or lose ’em folks.
